Faculty Positions in Automation and Robotics

The School of Information Science and Technology (SIST) in the newly founded ShanghaiTech University invites highly qualified candidates to fill multiple tenure-track as well as tenured positions as founding faculty members of SIST (see the official announcement). Candidates should have an exceptional academic record or demonstrate strong potential in frontier research areas of information science and technology or closely related fields. The School of Information Science and Technology has identified Robotics as one of its central areas of research. The ShanghaiTech Automation and Robotics Center (STAR Center) is one of seven centers of SIST and coordinating the collaboration of all groups interested in automation, robotics and related fields. Candidates from any related area (e.g. Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, Control, Automation, Manipulation, Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), Vision, Cooperative Robotics, …) are especially invited to apply.

China is the biggest and fastest growing robotics market in the world, and the cosmopolitan Shanghai is right in the center of that development, hosting a multitude of robotics and high-tech companies (e.g. ABB, FANUC, KUKA, SIASUN, …). Located in the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, ShanghaiTech is offering an excellent research environment with generous start-up support, copious collaboration opportunities (within the School and University; with the Chinese Academy of Science; with Industry and other local Universities), outstanding students and brand new campus facilities, as well as state of the art laboratories, robots, sensors and devices.

ShanghaiTech’s mission is to become a world-class research university for training future generations of scientists, entrepreneurs, and technological leaders in China. ShanghaiTech is committed to trail-blazing a new education system in China by building an open and free academic institution. We offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. In addition to establishing and maintaining a world-class research profile, successful candidates are also expected to contribute substantially to the educational missions of undergraduate and graduate programs within SIST. All faculty members in ShanghaiTech will be part of its tenure-track system commensurate with international practice, evaluation, and standards.
